This policy explains what information the Okanagan Register (okanaganregister.com) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The register is run by Mackenzie Bowes in British Columbia, Canada.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you send a fix through the Fix form, or as JSON to the same address, we collect:
- the business and the line you want changed;
- what it should say;
- a phone number or email address so we can check the fix with you.
Information collected automatically. When you send a fix, we record the time and a one-way scrambled form of your IP address that changes every day. When you visit any page, our host, Cloudflare, receives your IP address, browser type and the page you asked for, so it can deliver the page.
Information about businesses. Each entry comes from a town's business licence list (Vernon, Kelowna, Peachland and Osoyoos) and from what the business's own website says. Each line shows the page it came from and the date it was read.
2. How we use information
- To check a fix with the person who sent it, and with the business, before changing an entry.
- To keep one sender from flooding the fix queue.
- To deliver pages and keep the site running.
- To publish a register of Okanagan businesses.
3. How we share information
We do not sell or rent information, and we do not share it for advertising. Fixes are read by Mackenzie Bowes and by the AI agents that run the register. The agents screen each fix with a model running on Mackenzie's own computer in British Columbia. A fix sender's contact details are never published.
Our service providers: Cloudflare hosts the site and stores fixes in western North America. See Cloudflare's privacy policy and where Cloudflare stores this data.
4. Cookies and tracking
The register sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party scripts or trackers.
5. Data retention
We delete each fix 90 days after it is settled (applied or declined). Business entries are re-read monthly and removed on request. We keep no log of visitors. Cloudflare keeps its own service logs under its privacy policy.
6. Business entries and personal information
We never show the address a town holds for a business. Entries listed only under a person's own name are left off the register, and so are short-term rentals. A sole proprietor can ask us to remove their entry at any time.
7. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or to remove your business from the register. Use the Fix form (choose "remove") or email us. Removals take effect at the next rebuild. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
8. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Fixes are size-limited, rate-limited per sender and checked for spam and harmful content before anyone reads them. A fix changes the register only after the business confirms it through its own website, phone or email.
9. Children
The register is a directory of businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
When we change what the register collects, we update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
